Pom Prints Rescue

A Note From Tazamar

Dear Aunt Lori,

Thank you for rescuing me, your kindness and all that you’ve done.

Before I met you I was ignored and had no room to run.

You found me a forever home; it has a yard where I can play.

I have squeaky toys and treats and I’ll never be sent away

Because I have a new “Mom” who will love me for all of my days.

I'm grateful you know I'm “not just a dog” but a being of great worth.

I can’t SAY “thanks”, but this tail wag’s for you, my own angel on earth.

Because of you I’m going to have a fan-TAZ-tic life!

Love,

Taz

Notes From The Adopters

Thank you so much for your kind words!

Dear Lori,

Today I adopted Tazamar (Taz for short) from you, a 3 year old long haired, male chihuahua.

It was a hard decision because part of me still grieves for the loss of my beloved lab mix, Star, as you can see from the below poem I recently wrote.

I believe meeting  you and Taz was orchestrated by my angel who surely knew there had been an empty place in my heart for a long, long time.

One Saturday morning I sold somewhat over $200.00 worth of silver.  While at the jewelry store I met a lovely woman who told me how she recues abused dogs and after Hurricane Katrina traveled to New Orleans with a friend to help save lost and abandoned dogs, one of which she brought back to Pittsburgh to give it a forever home.  She truly inspired me.

I decided to go to Petsmart to look at the rescue dogs brought in by one of the local shelters.  Even though I wasn't sure if I should get another dog, I just felt compelled to go there.  Of course they were all large dogs which I can no longer handle, but I figured I could at least give them a small donation. since I had just gotten the extra cash  After that I walked into Petsmart to look at the cats and a young lady was sitting there from the rescue league with her adorable shih tzu.  We started to talk and I told her I was thinking about getting a little dog but never saw any for adoption at shelters. and I refuse  to buy a dog from pet stores as I believe they are all puppy-mill animals.    As you say, Lori, ADOPT DON'T SHOP.  Plus I just wasn't sure if it was time yet even though it had been well over a year since Star (and my shih tzu, Shadow) went to the Rainbow Bridge, finances, my age etc.  I was just so torn. The young lady told me she had gotten her small dog from you and gave me your card.

I called you that evening and we talked for a long while as most animal lovers tend to do because we are kindred spirits.  I was so impressed by your love and devotion to dogs and all of the hard work you do to rescue them and put them in what you hope will be forever homes.  Bless your heart for what you do.

You directed me to your site and I saw Taz for the first time; what a darling boy.  And his adoption fee was $200.00, the same amount I got for the silver!  A coincidence?  I think not.  He was a gift from my angel who lead us on a path to each other.  Taz came to stay with me for a few days on a trial basis and I soon realized he was meant to be here with me and my cat, Sierra, permanently.  I don't think he had much attention or love in his short life, yet it never deterred his natural inclination to be affectionate and sweet natured.  Well that old life is all over for him now because he has found his forever home in my arms, a place where animals are treasured and a part of my heart.

I know you are happy when you feel you've found just the right home for a dog, yet I can see a little piece of your heart goes along with them.  You are an angel on earth to these lonely, neglected souls.  So I thank you and my own angel for giving me the blessing of Taz.

With affection and gratitude,

Debby

Heaven’s Rainbow……In Memory of Star

Star, you were not just a dog or pet to me;

As my companion you made life less lonely.

In the depths of your brown eyes I could see,

Harbored in your soul was a quiet dignity.

Devotion shone in your heart as did loyalty.

Your spirit soared away on the wings of a dove

To the grandeur and beauty of heaven above.

It is you, dear Star, I have so often dreamed of;

Distance has not hindered the bond of our love.

By angels we’ll be reunited;

Such elation awaits.

I’ll meet you at the rainbow

Arched across the Pearly Gates.

Hello Lori,

I sometimes visit your website and I was thinking that maybe you could post this for people who are considering an adoption - it’s from me. I would like people to know :-)

We adopted Lance, a little black poodle, seventeen months ago. He is an adult dog and he has a cataract. First, he was sad and it seemed that he is mostly just excited about his dinner or going out for a walk. After few months he became the most loving pup we could have imagined. He loves to bring his toys to us (that’s how he asks us to play with him). He gives kisses and loves to nap by our side. He chases squirrels in the park and pokes Jesse’s guitar with his nose because it makes sounds. We think we made his life better, but he definitely made our lives better - after a day at work, I love to play with him and scratch his belly. It’s the best relax in the world. My husband and I love to watch him play and we laugh at him together. Lance is a lot of fun. If you are thinking of adopting an adult dog, I can warmly recommend. I call Lance my darling, because that is exactly what he is.
